Dubas is too young and not even close to ready. Chayka is doing a good job.

I think the leafs need someone like Buff....or actually BUFF!
Leafs need more grit....not to fight but just some players who finish hits and will make people pay for every inch of the ice (who have skill as well)...didnt seem like most leafs did that.

The new GM needs to get 2-3 better dmen.

I would.. Yes, for Tippett, Jost, Rantanen, Brodin and maybe Nick Ritchie. The rest can spend some quality time with HOHO's hat.

Leafs need to get Buff and Josi and Poile and sign JT and target a low paid underachieving winger like Benn.

All realistic propositions, I assure you.

yup, there were some concerns over the contract length.
but the Average Annual Salary was considered as 'great deal' by virtually all.

thats just it. maybe 50% chance of getting a better player. and really only 1 legit no doubt yes (Rantanen)

a #10 pick is not as valuable as most think. its a gamble

I had a pretty good one on page 7 that I think still rings true today:

I think the Leafs should trade away some players that they think they could probably go without going forward, in exchange for a player or players that they think will improve the team.

Lets stick to reality.
One top 4, better options at 5 and 6.
Or move Gardiner for a different top 4 D..sign a top 4 d...replace a 5/6.

JT wont be a leafs IMO...I could see Vegas throwing boatloads of cash at him.

I don't think JT will be a leaf either. There's other teams where it makes way more sense, not the least of which is the Island.

I don't know how the Leafs get their top 4 guy at this point. I'll likely not like the deal when it comes around, whatever the trade is. Just loving our young forwards right now.

I agree with that, but this year it is expected to be a deep draft...
In some years, the 10th overall might amount to nothing.. For the past 5-7 years, the 10th overall pick has been looking better. Owen Tippet has the potential to be a good pick, only time will tell.

I also posted this in the Z thread.

senstroll for Leafs GM?

your point is still valid though. He is 25 and not doing great against tougher comps.. I really doubt he gets better towards 30
- senstroll

You can use plus minus, Corsi, your eyes and a host of other things... and I come to the conclusion that he struggles against tougher matchups

the dollar value is fine... I just dont get the 7 years for a 3/4 D

I am loving this.

Edit:

It's not that bad of a contract.... but comitting 7 years to a player you've seen play one season in the NHL is a little risky.

Still, he's already an important part of a defensive corps that needs all the help it can get.

I ain't looking too foolish there.
